Zimbabwe have named a fifteen man squad under Sikandar Raza for the T20 international tri series in Windhoek against Namibia and South Africa, with Graeme Cremer recalled and two front line seamers unavailable.
The tournament is a double round robin between the three sides, with the top two meeting in the final on 6 September. Zimbabwe play both opponents twice before that. Cremer back, Ngarava and Chivanga out
Cremer returns after recovering from a left arm injury, which restores a specialist leg spin option alongside Wellington Masakadza. Richard Ngarava and Tanaka Chivanga are both unavailable through injury, and losing two seamers of that standing at once is the more significant part of the team news.
Raza continues as captain across the tournament. The batting looks familiar, with Bennett, Curran, Madhevere and Marumani all retained, so the questions in Windhoek are about who bowls at the top and whether Matigimu and Nyamhuri can carry an attack that has lost its two quickest men.
Why a tri series matters this season
Zimbabwe will help host the 2027 Cricket World Cup, so every series between now and then is judged partly on whether it builds a squad rather than just a result. This one is a T20 tournament rather than a fifty over one, which limits how directly it feeds that, but it does put fifteen players into competitive cricket against a Full Member side in South Africa and a Namibia team at home.
The final on 6 September is the one date on the tournament that is fixed for all three teams, and it is the fixture Zimbabwean supporters will be looking for.
