SC Villa beat Express by two goals to nil at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku on Wednesday, Patrick Kakande scoring in the fourth minute and Andrew Otim adding the second in added time.
Kakande finished from close range with barely four minutes played, and Villa never gave the lead back. They made and missed several more chances before the interval, and the finishing was the only thing wrong with their first half.
Express were the better side for long spells after the break without scoring. Otim settled it at the end, keeping after a loose ball that goalkeeper Mathias Kigonya did not gather.
Seven points from three matches
The win puts Villa on seven points from their first three matches of a season that opened on 28 August. Express go into the rest of September having lost a Kampala derby at home.
For Villa the story is Kakande. He was flat for much of last season and this was the performance that set the tone, taken in the first five minutes of the biggest fixture on their calendar so far.
