Uganda’s She Cranes have set their sights on the African Netball Championship in Nairobi, with a place at the 2027 World Cup already banked.
The continental showpiece runs from 19 to 26 September at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi. Uganda are expected to meet familiar rivals including Malawi, South Africa and Zimbabwe, and a strong run would mark the She Cranes as genuine contenders for the African crown they have long chased.
The pressure of qualification has already lifted. Uganda have secured their ticket to the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney, which frees the squad to attack Nairobi without the usual anxiety. That security should help the younger players settle and let the coaches test combinations against the region’s best.
Recent form supports the ambition. At the Glasgow Commonwealth Games the She Cranes matched their best ever finish, winning three of five group matches, including a 65-56 result against hosts Scotland. Carrying that confidence into Nairobi will be key as Uganda look to close the gap on the continent’s top sides.
Where to bet: Ugandan netball fans can follow the She Cranes with licensed local bookmakers such as Betway and SportyBet, with odds priced in Ugandan shillings, UGX. Expect markets on match winners and tournament outrights, so compare prices before the Nairobi tip off. 18+. Gamble responsibly.
