Young Africans beat Fountain Gate by two goals to nil in Arusha on Monday and Simba beat Geita Gold by the same score in Dar es Salaam, and Yanga stayed top of the NBC Premier League table.
Peter Shalulile put Yanga ahead before half time at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium and Mudathir Yahya added the second in the second half. It was another goal for a striker who arrived from Mamelodi Sundowns as a free agent and who had already scored twice in the opening rounds.
Chama and Gueye settle it for Simba
Simba beat Geita Gold by two goals to nil at the Meja Jenerali Isamuhyo Stadium. Clatous Chama scored in the first half and Libasse Gueye added the second after the break, and the visitors could not find a way back once the second went in.
Yanga are first in the table and Simba are second. Before Monday the two clubs were level on nine points from three matches, with Yanga ahead on goals scored, eleven against six.
A higher scoring league than last season
The early rounds have produced far more goals than the same stage of last season, at an average of 2.68 a game against 1.65. That matters to anyone pricing a Tanzanian coupon, because the over and under lines set on last season’s numbers have been catching up all month.
One caution on the round. AXN Sports has not published the Azam result from the same evening, because only the league’s own site carried it and no second newsroom had it at the time of writing.
