Ephraim Kondowe scored three times as FCB Nyasa Big Bullets beat Silver Strikers by five goals to nil at the Mpira Stadium, a win that closed the club’s first round of the FDH Bank Premiership at the top of the table on thirty points.
Kondowe struck in the opening minutes and again midway through the first half. Wongani Lungu made it three before the interval, Kondowe completed his hat trick just past the hour and Misheck Billiat added the fifth soon afterwards.
Bullets coach Wedson Nyirenda told Nyasa Times that his side had been struggling to convert the chances it created in earlier games. Silver Strikers coach Peter Mgangira said his team had failed to manage its game plan and had conceded goals it should not have conceded.
What the win does to the table
Bullets end their own first round programme on thirty points from fifteen matches, from eight wins, six draws and one defeat. Silver Strikers and Mighty Wanderers went into the weekend level on twenty nine points and Blue Eagles were a point further back on twenty eight, so the defeat leaves Silver third on goal difference and Bullets clear at the top.
Round one is not finished yet
One first round fixture is still outstanding. Blue Eagles host Mighty Wanderers at the Nankhaka Stadium on Saturday 19 September, and Wanderers can go back above Bullets there. Wanderers also have a CAF Champions League return leg to play in Dar es Salaam, having lost the first leg at home to Simba SC.
