Ghana has two boxers in the World Boxing Organization’s world ratings and both of them are in the same division. Theophilus Kpakpo Allotey is twelfth at junior bantamweight and Michael Abban is fifteenth, on the ratings dated 28 August 2026.
Junior bantamweight is the 115 pound class, the same weight most Ghanaian coverage calls super flyweight. Two names from one country inside the top fifteen of a single division is unusual, and it means Ghana’s best chance of a world title fight now sits at one weight.
How Abban got in
Abban beat Yanga Sigqibo of South Africa in Ghana in early August and kept his WBA Pan African junior bantamweight title. The fight went the distance and Abban took a unanimous decision. It moved his record to fifteen wins and one defeat.
Sigqibo’s trainer said afterwards that Abban had controlled the fight and outworked his man in most of the rounds. It was Sigqibo’s first bout in more than a year and his fourth career defeat.

Allotey has a date and an opponent
Allotey headlines Osagyefo Fight Night at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday 19 September, promoted by Obra Sports. His opponent is Facundo David Garcia of Argentina over twelve rounds, in a World Boxing Association eliminator at junior bantamweight.
AXN Sports held that matchup back on 5 September because only one newsroom carried it. A second independent fight schedule now lists the same bout, the same distance and the same eliminator status, so it goes on the page.
An eliminator is the fight that produces a mandatory challenger. Win it and the sanctioning body puts the winner in line for a world title bout; lose it and a rating built over years is gone in an evening.
