Medeama beat Nations FC by two goals to nil at the TNA Stadium on Sunday to win the 2026 Champion of Champions, the first trophy of the Ghanaian season and the champions’ first outing before they defend their league title.
Fatawu Sulemana scored from the penalty spot in the first half and Emmanuel Annor added the second after the break, against the club he left in the close season.
What the Champion of Champions is
It puts the Ghana Premier League winners against the MTN FA Cup holders and opens the domestic calendar, so Medeama arrived as league champions and Nations FC as cup winners. The Ghana Football Association treats it as the curtain raiser to the season rather than as a competitive fixture, which is why squads are usually rotated and why the result reads better as a fitness marker than as a form guide.
The Premier League itself opens on the weekend of 4 to 7 September and runs to the weekend of 28 to 31 May 2027. Medeama also have a preliminary round tie against TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League, and Nations FC drew FC Diarra in the Confederation Cup.
How much it should move a price
Less than the scoreline suggests. A curtain raiser played before a ball has been kicked in the league tells you who is fit, not who is going to be there in May, and Medeama spent the close season rebuilding rather than holding a squad together. Twelve additions arrived at the club, including a goalkeeper from Sudan and a winger from Georgia.
Outright prices on the Ghana Premier League will still be set largely off last season, because there is nothing else to set them off. That usually leaves the newly promoted sides and the clubs that recruited heavily mispriced for the first month, which is where the value sits before the table starts to mean something.
Where to bet: Ghanaian books open the domestic league with match result, double chance, total goals and both teams to score, and add outright winner and top scorer once the season is under way. Betway and Premier Bet, both licensed by the Gaming Commission of Ghana, price in cedis with deposits through MTN Mobile Money and Telecel Cash. Opening weekend prices are built on last season’s table rather than on current form, so compare the two books before the first round rather than after it.
