How the FDH Bank Netball Premier League Works in Malawi

The FDH Bank Netball Premier League is Malawi’s top domestic netball competition, built on twelve teams, twenty two matches each and a sponsorship package worth K1.2 billion over four years.

Twelve clubs make up the league and each of them plays twenty two matches, a format The Nation set out when the first season closed in March 2026. Malawi24 counted more than two hundred fixtures across that opening campaign, and Nyasa Times put the same figure on it.

What the sponsorship actually buys

FDH Bank plc committed K1.2 billion to the competition across four years. For the second season the annual figure rose to K350 million from K250 million, an increase confirmed on 29 June 2026 by Nyasa Times and Malawi24 and reported the same week by The Nation.

Prize money sits inside that. Blue Eagles Sisters took K13 million for winning the first season, having gone through it unbeaten and closing it out by beating Tigresses by fifty eight goals to thirty three. Both The Nation and Malawi24 carry that result and that figure. The two papers disagree on which club finished second and which finished third, so those placings are left out here.

Where the money stops

Sponsorship covers the competition, not the clubs. FDH Bank managing director Noel Mkulichi used the first awards night to call on the wider business community to sponsor sides that were struggling, and the season since has shown why. Tigresses, one of the better known Blantyre clubs, went public in August 2026 with a warning about their own finances.

The bank also funds the Mayor’s Trophy and school sports through MASSA, which is the pathway feeding the twelve senior squads. That pairing, a well funded national league sitting above thinly funded clubs, is the structural feature to watch in Malawian netball.

The season shape

The inaugural edition ran through the second half of 2025 and finished in March 2026 at the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences Sports Complex in Blantyre.
