Mighty Wanderers and Silver Strikers finished the weekend level on 29 points at the top of the FDH Bank Premiership, separated only by goal difference after fourteen matches each.
Wanderers did their work on Saturday 22 August, beating Red Lions by two goals to one. Silver Strikers then failed to take advantage on Sunday, held to a nil nil draw by Goshen City Dedza Dynamos. Blue Eagles are third on 28 points, one behind the pair.
A weekend of draws at the top
Sunday produced almost no movement. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets were held to a nil nil draw at Luanar Mitundu, and Karonga United and Chitipa United shared a point each in a one all draw. Three of the four Sunday fixtures ended level, which is why a table that looked settled on Saturday evening now has two clubs on the same points and a third within a single win of both.
The Bullets result is the one that carries the most weight beyond the weekend. A club that has spent most of the last decade treating the domestic title as its own property has now dropped points against a side in the bottom half, and it is running out of first round matches in which to make the ground back up. Malawian football has not had a title race this crowded in years.
What the goal difference tie means
Two clubs on 29 points from fourteen games means the summit will change hands on single results for the rest of the round, and it explains why the published tables disagree on which of Wanderers and Silver Strikers sits first. AXN Sports is reporting the pair as level rather than picking one, because the difference between them is a goal, not a point.
Where to bet: domestic league markets in Malawi are narrower than the European menus, so on a Premiership fixture expect match result, double chance, over and under and correct score rather than player props. Premier Bet, licensed by the Malawi Gaming and Lotteries Authority, prices the FDH Bank Premiership in kwacha, with deposits through Airtel Money and Mpamba. A two way title race pushes the outright prices around after every matchday, so compare the outright at more than one operator before you commit, particularly on the club that just dropped points.
